Nurturing Growth and Leadership: The Troop Guide Role

Troop Guide as depicted by our community best friend 🤗

In part 4 of our series on unique roles and responsibilities for communities, we will explore the essential and inspiring role of the Troop Guide. This role is designed to empower community members by providing guidance, support, and inspiration, fostering a vibrant and collaborative environment in the scouting community.

The Troop Guide is an experienced community member who shares their knowledge and expertise with fellow scouts, helping them navigate the complex landscape of web3 tech and scouting principles. This guidance role promotes skill development, nurtures leadership, and encourages scouts to reach their full potential in the space.

🏕️ Guiding Scouts on Their Web3 Journey 🏕️

Why is This Role Important?

The Troop Guide plays a crucial role in nurturing the growth and development of scouts. Key aspects of this role include:

  1. Personalized guidance: Troop Guides provide tailored advice and support to scouts, helping them overcome challenges and develop the skills they need to thrive in the web3 space.

  2. Knowledge sharing: Troop Guides share their expertise and experiences in scouting and web3, offering valuable insights and lessons from their journey.

  3. Networking opportunities: By connecting scouts with other members of the scouting community, Troop Guides can help expand their network and open up new opportunities for collaboration and growth.

  4. Confidence building: Through guidance, scouts can gain the confidence they need to explore new ideas, take risks, and contribute to the scouting community in meaningful ways.

  5. Goal setting and accountability: Troop Guides help scouts set achievable goals and track their progress, holding them accountable and encouraging them to stay focused on their objectives.

Inspiring US to Reach Our Full Potential

What are the Benefits of Implementing a Troop Guide Role?

Establishing this role can have a transformative impact on your scouting organization's culture, innovation, and success:

  1. Accelerated growth: Troop Guides can speed up the learning process for scouts, helping them quickly acquire new skills and knowledge that will benefit the scouting community as a whole.

  2. Enhanced collaboration: By fostering connections between Troop Guides and scouts, the guidance role promotes collaboration and synergies within the scouting community, driving innovation and growth.

  3. Empowered members: Guided scouts are more likely to feel empowered and motivated to take on leadership roles and contribute to the scouting organization's success.

  4. Increased diversity: A Troop Guide program can attract a diverse range of individuals with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, enriching the scouting community's collective knowledge and creativity.

  5. Stronger scout retention: When scouts feel supported and valued, they are more likely to remain committed and engaged in the scouting organization long-term.

In comparing one of the previous roles I've discussed, the Troop Navigator is primarily focused on helping new members settle into the community, while the Troop Guide plays a more active role in supporting members' growth and development throughout their time in the community. This should help clear up the two.

By embracing the Troop Guide Role, the community can unlock the potential of its members and create an inclusive, dynamic environment where everyone can grow and succeed. Encourage your community to take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn, connect, and innovate.

Over the life of this newsletter, you’ll be introduced to many concepts, frameworks, and foundations that guide me in web3 community-building efforts.

The Future of Work 👩‍💼

I’ve been thinking a lot about the future of work lately.

Part of being involved in building the future of the internet is its relation to the future of work and how we grow through shared success in web3 and beyond.

Many folks are working on solutions to this, especially as AI transforms how we work now - we need to work to secure solutions for workers of the next generations. Every week, I talk to people asking questions about how to get work in web3 or gain experience in the space.

This is why I’m working on solving this problem however I can. I came into web3 at the tail end of a contract in finance and needed new work. Thankfully I could leverage my career and hobby experience to build something for myself, and I feel a great responsibility to share that knowledge.

I’ll discuss this a bit this week in a workshop at InPeak.

Twitter Algorithm Goes Open Source 😲

If you’re still on Twitter you’ve probably seen by now that on Friday, the Twitter algorithm was released on GitHub and is now open source for everyone to view and scrutinize.

There have been some interesting revelations uncovered, and if you haven’t seen this viral tweet from NFTGod yet, it’s pretty comprehensive and definitely one to take note of if you’re an active Twitter user.

A Few AI Resources of The Week 🤖

I’ve mentioned Rob Lenon before. He’s back at it with a new framework for AI prompts - check it out here. There are also a ton of helpful replies to learn from. His whole profile is filled with incredible AI bits.

Zeneca tweeted this mega list of AI tools here, and for 2 more repositories, check out Hugging Face and Future Tools. Yesterday Claire Silver dropped this massive thread of AI tips, tools, and tutorials.

Together’s mission is to build a global network of web3 community professionals dedicated to promoting best practices, supporting each other's growth, and contributing to the success of web3 projects and communities. We aim to provide members with educational resources, mentorship, and collaboration opportunities. We also offer a supportive and welcoming environment that encourages learning, exploration, and personal growth.

🚨 If you’re not already following Together on Twitter, now is a good time to do that. We are two weeks away from big announcements on the next steps for the community. You do not want to miss this.

Together and xCollective partnered with TYB (who recently announced Shopify integration into their platform) for a workshop on community-led brand building on April 13th. This event is invite-only, so if you want to attend please reply here!

If you’d like to be a guest host for us, some topics we’re looking to discuss further are: content writing, AI generation, and community organizing.

Below are all the Twitter Spaces I’ve spoken in, transcripts, and resources pinned to each.

That’s all for this week, friends! I hope you’ve found this issue valuable, and if so, I’d love for you to recommend a friend or two to subscribe. It would mean the world. 🌈
